Adulting Abroad!

Hello all!

For the past 2 weeks I have been interning here in London and will continue to do so until the week that I leave.

I intern Wednesday-Friday at a non-profit organization called Love to Learn that focuses on assisting refugee students in the west London area. We run a homework club for these students twice a week where we work on homework, do activities like music and karate and of course have a snack! It is so nice to be working with the youth of the area because at the end of the day, this is what my career will be based around.

I love the fact that my program has this opportunity to really immerse yourself in the culture while also getting professional experience to bring back to the states! It is nice to be around the locals of the area all day long because my first half of the semester I had classes with all American students and although I learned a lot from them, working with a cultural difference is proving to be a different kind of challenge that I am loving.

With graduation being only a month away for me it is really nice to end my college career doing an internship abroad and not just sitting on the UAlbany campus taking normal classes with the same people I have taken classes with for the past 3 years. I am feeling bittersweet about the idea of not going back to Albany when I head home in December but luckily I have all of my grad school applications to look forward to hearing back from!

With only 5 weeks left in London, and 3 days a week being spent at work, I really am trying to make the most of my time in Europe. It is crazy to think that once I leave I have no idea the next time I will be back. But now that I have experienced this amazing culture, I know that I will be back for sure.

I have been exploring food markets, and shopping for Christmas presents and just enjoying the scenery of this amazing city as much as possible while I still can. Luckily I still have 2 more trips planned, to Amsterdam next weekend and Scotland the weekend after Thanksgiving (which I will not be celebrating unfortunately).

So, on that note, I cannot wait to see my kids again on Wednesday at work but I will also enjoy my afternoon of tea tomorrow like a local!
