Hello all! My name is Aubrey and welcome to my study abroad blog, also know as "Study Aub-Broad"! Shoutout to my sister for the word play as I was trying to name this blog.
It is currently 9:15pm in Toronto, Canada but my journey began earlier today back in Rochester, New York. I left home with my mom and her fiancé Mike around 12:30pm and we took the drive across the border to my first destination outside of the US; Canada!
My journey will end (but really just begin) tomorrow at 11am London time, so 6am for all you New Yorkers reading! I'll try not to wake anyone up with my texts and snaps but no promises.
For the next 110 days I will have the amazing pleasure of studying at the Foundation for International Education located in South Kensington, just west of the iconic London landmarks we all know and love. I will take 6 weeks of normal classes, learning about British culture, followed by a lovely 10 day break period. After my break in the end of October, I will finish my time in London with an internship somewhere in the field of psychology or education.
For the past 3 years I have been a happy go lucky college student at SUNY Albany but this semester, which will be the last of my undergraduate career, I really wanted to challenge myself in a new way I hadn't done before. So here I am boarding an international flight, by myself, for the first time in my life!
I hope to keep this blog updated with pictures, and stories about travel, and tips for future study abroad students and anything else that comes to mind while I embark on this crazy adventure!
Before I wrap up and board my flight, I want to make it known that studying abroad IS possible. I was one of those students who never thought it would be possible, and never thought I would have the courage but if you're reading this and even considering studying abroad, look into it. I'm going to be honest, it takes a LOT of work, but I'm not even on the plane and I already know its worth it!
To everyone who has helped me get here, I cannot express my endless gratitude and I hope this blog helps you share this experience with me! I will miss my family, friends, school and American chicken wings dearly but I know that this chapter of my life is meant to begin today.
So on that note America, I will see you in 110 days as a college graduate and a world traveler!
Aub
